M. S. Ramaiah Medical College offers under graduate MBBS programme (4 ½ years course with a compulsory one year rotating internship) and post graduate course in all pre and para clinical disciplines leading to MD / MS / PG Diploma qualifications.

M. S. Ramaiah Medical College also trains Post graduates in Super Speciality departments of Urology, Plastic Surgery and Neurology leading to MCH / DM qualifications. The super speciality courses in disciplines like Cardiology, Endocrinology and Gastro-enterology are commencing shortly.

The foundation of any form of successful treatment is accurate diagnosis. While diagnosis skills will be developed and enhanced by experience, it is essential that every prospective dentist is taught now to develop a structured and comprehensive approach to oral diagnosis. Our objective is to contribute and facilitate this process Oral medicine is a discipline that subsumes internal medicine as it impacts on dental care; management of medically ill patients; diagnosis of systemic diseases on the basis of oral, head and neck manifestation; diagnosis and management of oral soft tissue diseases and oro-facial pain. The department is well equipped with the latest diagnostic and therapeutic equipments such as digital radiography, panoramic radiography, extra oral radiography, intra oral camera, sialography kit and TENS which is essential for early diagnosis and treatment of oro-facial diseases. As a post graduate department, PG students are involved in various scientific research works with long and short term studies for the betterment of human race.

? Dental pain is treated comprehensively in our department and remembering the adage ? Prevention is better than cure ?, we are addressing the causes of various dental diseases such as dental caries periodontitis, oral cancer etc, by educating the masses about the ill effects of poor oral hygiene, dietary habits, tobacco, alcohol consumption etc. ?Reaching the unreached? is made possible by the innumerable dental screening & treatment camps. These camps held in collaboration with various NGO?s reach out in the people in rural, semi urban & urban areas. The benefits of these camps are reaped not only by the patients, but also by our students, interns & PG Students who are exposed to a wide array of patients. Man management & resources management skills of our PGs are enhanced by these camps. Along with providing comprehensive care in the college premises, the dept has a rural dental unit at kaiwara, chintamani taluk & Out Reach clinics at Mohan Kumar Nagar, Ravi Kirloskar & muddenahalli. Along with Community Dentistry PGs, other dept PGs are also involved in treating the patients at Kaiwara. Every month a specialist?s treatment camp is held wherein PG from various specialties of dentistry treat the patients. A fully equipped mobile dental van is another feather in the crown. With the arrival of the mobile dental unit, treatment which was not possible due to lack of clinical infrastructure like RCT?s, composite restorations, flap surgeries, impactions etc can also be done in conjunction with specialists from the respective fields during field programme. Our students learn to treat not just the individual but the community as a whole. Empathy & compassion which are the hallmarks of a healer are thus inculcated in them.

Conservative department covers the diagnosis and treatment of dental caries including root canal treatment.
It is perpectual preservation of what remains rather than the meticulous replacement of what is lost - De van?s dictin. Conservation department / dentistry covers the diagnosis and treatment of sequelae of dental caries and include the techniques & procedure for replacement of lost & defective Dental tissue. The PG course started first in this department in the year 2001 and has seen 4 batches of students come out with flying colours. The department objectives include training undergraduate students to levels of competence in restoration, rehabilitation & maintenance of dentition. To promote a conducive learning environment through appropriate teaching methodologies and assessment. Training of P.G?s to a level of competence in restorative & esthetic applications. Keeping pace with the latest advancement in technology materials and equipment.
Equipment: The department is well equipped with Ultra modern Hi tech chairs. The latest arrivals are surgical loupes, R.V.G., Apex Locator, Endo handpiece, Fibreoptic handpiece, Dual Cordless Light Cure Units. Advanced Restorative and Esthetic treatment is done in the department.

Gingival and periodontal diseases in their various forms have afflicted humans since the dawn of history. Periodontal diseases are one of the most common dental diseases found in the general population. The branch of Periodontics deals with diagnosis and treatment of various forms of periodontal diseases and maintaining optimal health of the periodontium to prevent early tooth loss. The department is well equipped with all the latest and advanced diagnostic equipments such as Digital Radiography ( R.V.G ) and Intraoral camera used for early diagnosis and prevention of periodontal diseases. It also has latest and advanced materials like local drug delivery (LDD) systems, bone grafting materials, GTR membranes used in Regenerative surgical procedure along with Perio esthetics procedures. As oral implantology is a part of preiodontics, we have a very good surgical set up and equipment for Implant placement and several implants have already been placed successfully. Being a post graduate department the P.G students undergo vigorous training in various aspects in the field of periodontics.

The department caters to Inpatients / outpatients; minor and major surgical procedures.
Minors surgical procedures include: extractions, impacted tooth removal, treatment of odontogenic cysts and tumors, treatment for dentoalveolar fractures, biopsy procedures, medical management of TMJ problems, dentoalveolar surgeries etc.
Major surgical (OT) procedures include: treatment for-fractures of facial region, suturing of facial wounds, TMJ Ankylosis, cancer of the head and neck region, cleft lip and palate, facial esthetic surgery, orthognathic surgery etc.
The department all the equipment & instruments necessary to treat the above said surgical procedures. The department has all the distinction of running 24 hours TRAUMA CARE along with the accident and emergency units at M.S. Ramaiah Medical teaching Hospital and M.S. Ramaiah Memorial Hospital.

Prosthodontics is a specialization of replacing the lost teeth and associated structures. The treatment offered includes removable, fixed implant supported and maxillofacial prosthesis to improve or alter the function. The restoration pertains to replacement and maintenance of oral function, comfort, appearance and health of the patient by replacement of missing teeth and craniofacial tissues with artificial substitutes. This vibrant specialty is among the oldest in the field of dentistry. The prosthesis utilizing dental implant in part or whole for retention, support and stability is recent facility being offered. The department is well equipped in terms of infrastructure, which includes computer facility, state of the art equipments and instruments. Personalized patient care system being the main objective of the department. Basic as well as highly advanced, methodical and through training is given to the students in peaceful and friendly atmosphere with the sense of responsibility. The results in the examinations are encouraging.

Department of Pedodontics concentrates on preventive as well as treatment needs of children from infants to adolescents as a part of preventive programs, department indulges in diet counseling programs for parents, pit and fissure sealant and fluoride programs, behaviour modification etc for children suffering from severe decay and associated problems. Department also offers oral rehabilitation under general anesthesia in M.S. Ramaiah Memorial hospital for those children who are too young to cooperate or special children (mentally, physically or medically compromised). Department also executes several school health programmes for students of several government and private schools in and around Bangalore North. Department is well equipped in terms of infrastructure. Radio imaging, Intraoral camera, rotary endodontics, audiovisual aid etc equips the department for all necessary clinical work. Tastefully decorated and pleasing to children, department presents a different look unlike a dental hospital to allay the fears of pediatric patients.

Orthodontics specializes in correction of malocclusion and improving the smile through obtaining a well aligned teeth and jaws. This vibrant specialty is one among the oldest in the field of dentistry. The treatment offered includes removable, fixed orthodontic appliances, functional appliances for growth modulation and orthognathic surgery for adult patients with gross jaw discrepanices. Orthodontic implants as anchorage being the recent facility being offered. The department is well equipped in terms of infrastructure, which includes multimedia computer facility, state of the art equipments & instruments, and a team of highly committed and dedicated teachers. Personalized patient care system being the main objective of the department. Basic as well as highly advanced, methodical and through training is given to the students in a peaceful and friendly atmosphere with the sense of responsibility. The results in the examinations are encouraging.

Department is spacious and includes a well equipped tooth morphology and oral histology lab which can easily accommodate more than 60 students. The undergraduate students are also subjected to an exhaustive curriculum in various aspects of oral histology and tooth morphology. The department also boasts of well equipped histopathology and clinical pathology lab with routine processing of histopathological speciments and routine blood investigation. The department is planning to start or commence Post Graduate course from the next academic year geared to the preparation of a dentist/pathologist for advancement in both clinical and academic fields. A new set of equipments including multiheaded microscope with the digital camera, and software for image processing and analyzer will be installed along with audiovisual equipments LCD projector and television to aid the students in all their academic pursuits. The department is equipped to have IHC (Immuno Histo Chemistry) lab in the proposed Oral Pathology department in the new block which will be coming up shortly.
